Col de Mille

On the opposite side of the valley from Verbier, there are endless single trails. The descent from the Col de Mille is one of the longest and best.

Description

From Le Châble, a long asphalt ascent rides up to La Pasay and on to the alp at the Montagne du Six Blanc. There are 1200 meters of altitude to master here. A rideable singletrail now leads along the ridge before climbing up to the Alp Écuries de Mille. From the alp to the pass, fit bikers ride up to an altitude of 2400 meters above sea level, but then have to tackle the last 70 meters on foot. The Col de Mille is the starting point for the descent, which is challenging at first but then becomes increasingly smooth. After Servey at the latest, it's pure riding fun for everyone. The route rides past Momin and directly down into the valley. At the very end, there is another short climb so as not to miss the last trail to Prarreyer. Take the little road back to Le Châble.

Alternatives: Instead of climbing over the Montagne du Six Blanc, head straight up to the Écuries de Mille.

As of August 2025 it was 30chf per person to catch the bruson lift and pasay lift. Well recommended to gain lots.of height.
The trail remains fantastic and the climb is fine until the last 200m very steep hike a bike.

As mentioned below, near the end you will join gravel track, then turn left uphill on singletrack for a final descent. It is very overgrown and doesnt really exist anymore, best to just descend on the track and not climb the singletrack.

An incredibly beautiful, fast and flowing descent! Incredibly beautiful! 🤩 Including the famous ridge. The last 500m of trails are overgrown and are no longer ridden. It's best to follow the road and ride down the valley. Definitely recommended!

Really nice and fun tour. I would also see scale three at the most difficult points. If anyone wants to ride the gondola: costs 15 per person, including bike. So we still had some fun and were in the mood for the climb towards the end and the various counter-climbs. The last trail is now very overgrown and there is also a tree lying across, so you can really save yourself this section.

We rode the tour from Le Châble. Pleasant, but long ascent. Super nice trail from the Montagne du Six Blanc along the slope. Ascent to the Col de Mille with a short carrying passage. From the Col de Mille an absolutely fun, very rideable trail (max. riding technique 3). The trail is very well maintained and is signposted as an e-bike tour (black). The trail is long and rides down into the valley. The tour is highly recommended.

Just discovered on the Verbier website: the Le Châble-Mayen de Bruson gondola lift only rides in the summer high season, 16.07.22 - 28.08.22.

As the bus that was still riding to Moay last year has apparently been discontinued due to the cable car operation (ends in Bruson), you either have to pedal most of the vertical meters yourself or do the tour in high season.

A pity, really, because after the tar and gravel ascent there is not so much time for the magnificent mountain world at the top of the Col de Mille.

Aspirants should also find out about the Verbier Trail mountain running competition (https://trailvsb.com/fr/), which takes place every year at the beginning of July, as the routes run along both the downhill trails of Col de Mille and the ascent route to Mont Brûlée.

We rode this tour on 25.06.22. Unfortunately, the gondola lift was closed. So we started from Bruson in the direction of Cole de Mille. The climb was pleasant (except for the cars). From KM 14 we took the first singletrail under our studs. Easy and flowy. However, due to time constraints, we didn't ride all the way up to the summit, but took the short cut at 2182m to the descent. This short cut also had some running sections but was still shorter than the very top. What followed was just awesome. A long approx. 8km technical cool enduro descent difficulty scale S1-S3 to Tarronay (29.3km). Simply brilliant. Highly recommended. From Tarronay it goes a little uphill then back to the starting point Bruson. Distance approx. 26km / 1400Hm for this we needed approx. 3h (only driving time).

We rode the tour on 27.5.2022. In the uppermost trail section, there are still some snowfields to be crossed on the first 200 Elevation loss. After that, trail fun deluxe, with everything your heart desires... Very flowy at the top, later best enduro banging. Only the very last small trail can really be saved, as it is totally overgrown...
In my experience, a technical riding rating of 3 is completely accurate in comparison with other ride tours. Top tour!!!

I rode the tour on 23.7.2020. I have now ridden all 3 Col de Mille tours from Ride, and the "Supertour" is clearly the worst for me :-).
The climb is easy to ride except for the last hairpin bends. Nevertheless, you've more than earned your rösti in the hut. The descent is then very flowy up to 2087, from there they were just working on the trail mechanically. I wonder how it will turn out. The trail from there was quite steep in places and also a bit technical, but all in all it was easy to ride, even if it wasn't without its problems. At one point we had to cross a landslide. The last section of trail at Les Râpes could be omitted, however, as it was quite overgrown. Great tour with a high risk of repetition.
I ride a Scott Genius Ultimate and am usually in the head group uphill; downhill I'm always the last, at a distance.

I was on the Col de Mille several times last year, usually starting from Orsières. After the construction work last time, I was excited to see what I could expect this year. And yes, I am thrilled. If I had to build a trail, it would be exactly like this. Even though a lot has been "shaped" from Pt. 2087 onwards, I think it was done with a lot of "reason" and "feeling". For me, this is now clearly the best descent from the Col de Mille. If you then add the Pierre Avoi as a dessert, the question is allowed...biker's heart, what more could you want? I can't think of anything more.

Most of the single trail was created with an excavator, which is a shame. You have the feeling of being in a bike park, especially in the last section near the torrent. The first section in black is out of date, it is a simple red section. If you are looking for more authenticity, choose the Col de Mille Super Tour variant. I rode it in October 2019 and there were no improvements with the excavator. However, the landscapes are still beautiful, with magnificent vegetation, especially in the section just below the Col de Mille.

I am an enthusiastic ride-tour rider. That's why I can compare and assess the ride scale well. In my opinion, this descent is at least a 4, 4+ or even a short 5, not that it's not rideable. On the contrary. But with a 3 on the riding technique ride scale, I expect a mostly flowy trail with some technical sections. The trail here is very narrow, the meadow sections are unfortunately very overgrown (pedals are often in place) and the forest is steep, narrow and rooted. Flow is hard to find. But a technical challenge! Also cool! Only the 3 on the scale can be deceptive...
