Mountain View Trail Mürren

Mountain View Trail (Mürren)

The "Mountain View Trail" is considered one of the most spectacular routes in Switzerland. The single trail always runs in the face of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. However, the route is also very popular with hikers, which is why it can only be tackled by mountain bike in the off-season and on weekdays.

Description

From Lauterbrunnen, you climb up the mountain road to Alpweg and later reach the little road that leads from Isenfluh. Follow this to Alp Läger, where the last section to Marchegg rides along a singletrail. Here you have to push your bike and even shoulder it for a few meters at the end. At Marchegg, you should first sit down on the bench for a few minutes. The view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau is phenomenal. Now follow the path through the alpine terrain, which is signposted as the Mountain View Trail. Much later, you reach the village of Mürren on a single trail. Here you can now take the official route via Gimmelwald to Isenfluh and then return to Lauterbrunnen along the valley floor. However, it is much more attractive to ride along the railroad line via Mittelberg to Winteregg and then take the fun single trail through the rocky terrain directly to Lauterbrunnen.

Note: The route via the Mountain View Trail can only be tackled as a mountain bike tour on weekdays in the low season (May/June and October/November)! Otherwise, there are too many hikers on the route, whose right of way must be respected.

Tip: The route is particularly beautiful at the end of May due to the flowering mountain meadows; there are very few hikers on the trail at this time.

A very beautiful and rewarding tour. The 'closed' sign is still there. I saved myself the trouble and took the road a few meters further onto the hiking trail. This is quite technical but easy to ride.

We rode the tour in mid-August 2020. In the late afternoon it goes reasonably well with the hikers on the panorama trail. A lot of ups and downs mean you have to push again and again. As one of the previous writers already wrote, the last trail into the valley is closed. We tried it anyway because the closure is not really well marked and then had to push 200 m back up again. This eliminates a large part of the descent.
However, after a short ride downhill on the forest path, you reach the built enduro trail. This is great fun for technically experienced bikers! (Difficulty 4 according to ride criteria)

Can anyone tell me whether the trail is already passable again, or whether the bridges are still destroyed? Thank you very much! Lg Georg

Someone could explain me why this tour is not recommended for e bike? Is it really that bad or just a short section ? Somewhere de have to push or carry? What would you recommend me? Thanks in advance!

There is a carrying section up to the Marchegg. Not too far, but you have to carry the bike for about 100 meters of altitude.

Rode the trail today, closed from winteregg and altläger!!! Not passable due to landslides all bridges destroyed!

If you start out happy enough, the Mountain View Trail is empty even on a beautiful Saturday in July.

Always a beautiful tour! Unfortunately, the trail behind the Winteregg restaurant is closed because the last storm felled trees that have not yet been cleared away.

Super nice tour. Carrying passages are worthwhile. Today there were still isolated patches of snow between Sousalp and Allmendhubel.
