Ravais-ch-Seen

The Keschhütte is a very popular destination for mountain bikers. The singletrail descent along the Ravais-ch lakes in seemingly untouched nature is little known. The route can either be ridden from Bergün as a circular tour or is also suitable as a crossing from Davos to Filisur.

Description

In Bergün, take the gravel road up through the Val Tuors to Chants. This is where the long ascent to the Keschhütte begins, initially on a wide path, which then becomes narrower as the altitude increases. However, the path is always wide enough to ride up with a small off-road vehicle, so fit mountain bikers can master this path by riding. At the Kesch hut, a long break with a view of the magnificent Piz Kesch is a must before following the high-level trail to the Raivais-ch lakes at the foot of the Sertig Pass. These lakes lie on several levels in the middle of seemingly untouched nature. To the left of the lakes, the singletrail rides downhill, tricky at first, then faster and smoother. The path rides through the Val da Ravais-ch and ends just above Chants. Due to a lack of singletrail alternatives, the route back to Bergün follows the same road as the ascent.

The tour can also be easily started from Davos. First take the road up the Sertig valley, then change to a gravel road after the last houses and climb towards the Sertig Pass. You can ride very high up in the valley, although at the very end you will have to push and carry your bike a little to the top of the pass. The effort is worth it, however, as you are directly above the idyllic Ravais-ch lakes. The descent to Bergün is identical, from Bergün you then take the official mountain bike route via Bellaluna to Filisur and from here you take the train back to Davos.

We rode the tour via Davos, Sertig and the Sertig Pass. Also went relatively well with the E-MTB.
Large area with 1500 sheep and guard dogs. There are plenty of signs along the way about how to behave. Be sure to dismount early enough when you see sheep and walk. If the sheep are jumping away, the dogs are deployed according to what they have learned!
We were lucky enough to only have to walk about 300 meters. But it could be completely different...
I can only recommend the variant from Davos.
Technically S3 for me.

Tour completed by us on July 6, 2024.
1. the "ascent" to the Kesch hut is NOT rideable for non-electricity bikers from 1960 m! Maybe a few extreme athletes. You have to push for at least 1-1.5 hours to get to the Kesch Hütte. A Strom rider has probably lost touch with NON-STROM riding :-)
2. the descent via the Ravais lakes was covered in snow for over 100 - 200 tm. Even the snow-free sections are often S3-4. The difficult descent is probably also caused by various scree and mudslides in combination with a lot of watercourses in the way.

In summary, the tour was NOT recommended in July 2024: far too many pushing and carrying sections, albeit a scenic highlight. The described technical difficulty level of 3 points is undervalued .... I compare it with other RIDE descents with an identical score.

Super tour, can be perfectly combined with the approach from Davos via the Scalettapass. The descent from the Scalettapass to Alp Funtauna and the ascent towards the Keschhütte are excellent. There are always a few meters on foot further on, but the fantastic and practically deserted landscape makes up for this. The descent from the Ravais-ch lakes is a little demanding in places, and here too you have to walk a few meters from time to time. But still very beautiful.

On this tour, there is no cell phone reception for long stretches, so an offline Map or GPS track can be helpful. Although you can't get lost, everything is well signposted.

At the first lake there is a sign informing you that between May and October there may be livestock guarding dogs in practically the entire Val da Ravais-ch (i.e. on the descent). The posted cell phone number for information would be useful, but useless without cell phone reception. I didn't come across any guard dogs today, but perhaps it would be best to ask the municipality of Bergün in advance.

Great tour. Fantastic trails and autumn colors. We came from Scaletta. However, my technical rating for the descent from the lakes is 4 out of 6. Beware it has guard dogs.

I agree with the first comment
Otherwise everything is rideable, even if very soft due to all the rain.

Checked 26.8.19

I rode the route from Cinuos-chel this fall. The traverse after the Sertig junction is treacherous, but the rest is fantastically beautiful. Final descent to Bergün unsatisfactory.

Even the fittest biker can't complete part of the ascent from 2000m in the saddle, even if some riders would have us believe it. Here you push for about 30 to 45 minutes. After a short flat section, almost everything is rideable for motivated bikers. It would make sense to give more consideration to bikers of average fitness in a tour description ...
