Rionda
Description
The tour to Alp Rionda starts in St-Maurice, but the actual ascent begins a little to the south at Eslex. The road winds its way up the mountain over countless bends, passing through the village of Morcles and reaching Alp Rosseline. Here the route turns into a gravel path, you pass Cabane Les Martinaux and finally reach Alp Rionda, which is prominently located on a mountain ridge. Directly above it, the rocks of the Dent de Morcles tower into the sky, the excellent panorama extends to the Dents du Midi and the Mont Blanc massif. Alp Rionda is also the starting point for the long singletrail descent to Collonges. The trail rides past the Alp Arbignon and the village of Les Monts and finally ends in the village of Collonges. It is technical at times, then flowing again, sometimes steep, then a little flatter - it impresses with its variety and its 1700 meters difference in altitude. Great fun for experienced singletrack mountain bikers! From Collonges back to St-Maurice, take the cycle path along the Rhône.

I rode the tour on 17.07.2020. However, I had the idea via Dorénaz and Cap. Du Sex Carro, i.e. the well-known ascent to the Portail de Fully. From 2214 to Chalet Neuf there should be a red singletrack. Unfortunately, far from it... the whole route from 2214 was a hike. Only from Chalet Neuf was it super fun until you cross the downhill route. From there it was more or less on wide paths along the contour line until you reach the original route above Morcles. All in all, this approach is definitely not recommended. The climb from Morcles is then easy to ride and only gets a little steep towards the end. In the Cap. La Tourche we had a well-deserved coke. The Dohnhill starts excellently, first along the contour line, sometimes a little exposed. Then it's fun and sometimes steep across meadows until I cross my ascent route. From there it is mostly very steep and also quite technical, but still easy to ride. It's a pity, however, that the meters in altitude are lost so quickly. Despite everything, it's a very worthwhile tour, especially because of the great views.
I ride a Scott Genius Ultimate and am usually in the head group uphill; downhill I'm always the last, by a long way.
At least the color on the single trial map has now been changed to black and purple!
Wonderful tour, highly recommended. Make a detour to the Cabane de la Tourche just before you reach Rionda: magnificent view of the Chablais and Lake Geneva. The hostess of the hut is very friendly and bakes excellent cakes. The first part of the descent from Rionda is relatively easy, allowing you to enjoy the magnificent landscape below the teeth of Morcles. Overall a well-balanced tour, the most difficult part is just above Les Hauts d'Arbrignon: when the grass is high, it hides the large stones scattered along the route.
