Sanaspans

Urdental (Lenzerheide)

Many people know the Parpaner Rothorn in Lenzerheide from the well-known descents to Arosa or Urdenfürggli. However, a little-known singletrail highlight of Lenzerheide is hidden on the south side.

Description

Most mountain bikers start the descent to Alp Sanaspans from the mountain station of the Rothorn cable car and then branch off to the right on the saddle just below to another crossing a little further down. You would reach this from the north side if you were to make the ascent from Lenzerheide under your own steam. The ascent is via the alpine road to Scharmoin and from there through the western flank of the Rothorn. From this depression at 2631 meters above sea level, the 600-meter singletrail descent to Alp Sanaspans begins. After the alp, follow the alp road for a few meters, but then turn right onto the marked hiking trail. On this trail, you "destroy" another 400 meters in altitude until you finally reach mountain bike route 601 (Lenzerheide Valley Tour). Follow this to the right back to the village of Lenzerheide.

Did the tour with the Bio Bike, very nice and strenuous tour. The ascent can be ridden for a long time, after Rothorn1 the pushing passages begin. Because the long push is also exhausting, I also carried the bike at times. The first trail is tricky but really fun. The second is filled with a lot of loose scree and I didn't find it so good, but it was okay and just rideable.

The ascent on partly loose gravel (in the upper part) is already pretty tough on an e-bike. I had to push on some of the very steep gravel sections. But the view is magnificent. The descent in the upper third is then quite rocky and requires technical riding skills. There were lots of hikers at the weekend when the weather was nice - and they don't always enjoy us. My overall impression: A beautiful tour, demanding in terms of fitness and technique. Unfortunately no restaurant at the highest point. There is another section to the Rothorn summit.
