Stöckli

Teufelsbrücke

Only a few people know the singletrail descent from the windmill high above Andermatt to Göschenen. It is therefore reserved for riders with good riding technique.

Description

From Andermatt, follow the Oberalp Pass road as far as Nätschen. Here you turn left onto the mountain road towards Lutersee. This section is marked as an official mountain bike route (Lutersee Bike, Route 411), which you follow to Ober Stafel just above the windmill. Turn left here and ride up to the ridge. The view from up here of the Urseren and Reuss valleys and the glacier peaks of Central Switzerland opposite is fantastic - even if you now have to concentrate on the single trail downhill to Göschnen. This is steep, rocky, rooty and twisty without end. Good riders will have a lot of fun, less experienced riders are out of place here. No less than 1300 meters of descent have to be mastered in one go. Through steep forest terrain, you finally reach the portal of the Gotthard tunnel and the village center of Göschenen. The return journey to Andermatt is no less spectacular, even though it rides along an asphalt road with heavy traffic. The route through the Schöllenen Gorge to Andermatt is world-famous and rides over the Devil's Bridge, among other things.

Rode the tour yesterday. PP at Park & Rail station Göschenen (1CHF/hour, 6CHF/day), train to Andermatt and cable car to Gütsch (both together with half-fare and bike 20CHF). 20Hm up and off we go. Great descent. Already technical... (the 4s I've ridden so far were all easier), especially sustained, with few relaxation phases. The few difficult and exposed sections can easily be done on foot, you don't lose much ;-)
Thanks to the two women who gave me the idea of Stöckli instead of Urschner Höhenweg (also great, especially the new descent to Hospental/Andermatt) on the train to Andermatt at lunchtime :-) They had just come from the descent and were thrilled...

Great conditions last Saturday, rock slabs mostly dry, almost everything rideable, full concentration. In my opinion [riding technique] rather a 4 than a 5. Length of the descent not to be underestimated. And in wet conditions, the rock slabs are probably unpleasantly slippery.

Tour also done on 08.08.20. You need to be fully alert for the descent, otherwise you will fall hard. For this reason, the focus is more on the trail than the surroundings. Trail is good technique training. The return trip from Göschenen to Andermatt is short and very scenic.

We rode the tour today. Quite nice, especially because of the great view of the Sustenhorn with its glacier. The descent has a few technical delicacies in the lower section (S3), which are also somewhat exposed (!). Otherwise, it is essentially a rather bumpy old and dilapidated military trail, often overgrown to singletrail width, but often much wider. Mostly not very steep. Most of the "hairpin bends" can hardly be described as such. The majority of the descent does indeed require a lot of attention due to countless large stones and stone fields and a few washed-out gullies. Conclusion: For people looking for a technical descent, it's mostly too easy, not steep enough and not varied enough. For people looking for a fast, not too technical descent, again too bumpy and not very smooth to ride. Quite ok, but we certainly won't do the descent a second time. There are definitely more exciting descents in the area (Surenenpass or Chinzigpass, for example)

We rode the tour on Sunday. Ascent from Göschenen to Andermatt by train. Then pedal up to the wind turbines (Zwiischenrast on Lake Luter). The descent to Göschenen is brilliant for good bikers. Although still partly wet from the previous day's thunderstorm, it has a very good grip. However, full concentration is required on the entire trail! One of the most beautiful technical trails we have ridden recently.

we started the tour in göschenen and went straight through to nätschen. changed trains in andermatt.
parked at the coop in göschenen, 5 francs a day
12 francs train, 7 francs bike
about 600 meters left to pedal yourself.
super trail!
similar difficulty throughout, S2+ with a few S3 sections.
open at the top with stone slabs, forest and forest floor at the bottom more hairpin bends and a key section which is also rideable.
