Val d'Uina (S-charl)
Description
From Scuol, take the long ascent through the Val S-charl to Alp Astras. The following singletrail to the Pass da Costainas is easy to ride, the descent is quite steep at the beginning, but then very fast on a forest path to Lü. The detour to Alp Champatsch with the singletrail version to Lü is more attractive. Now you climb to Alp Sot and follow the high trail to just below Alp Terza. The upcoming descent to Müstair is world class! You later reach Laatsch on the cycle path and climb up to Schlinig and along the rough alpine path to the Sesvenna hut. This is the starting point for the Val d'Uina route, which turns into the famous rocky trail a little after the Schlinig Pass. The trail here is carved into a huge rock face and you should push your bike for safety reasons. After the tricky sections, the path becomes increasingly flowing and runs wonderfully through Swiss stone pine forests to Alp Uina Dadaint. The next alpine path is as steep as it is fast, and you return to Scuol via Sur En through the wild lower Val d'Uina.
Tips: Ride the tour in two days with overnight accommodation in Müstair, Laatsch and the Sesvenna hut

This summer, starting in Brugeis, I rode the part over the Schlinig Pass and then back via the Reschen Pass, which also makes for a very beautiful and strenuous loop (approx. 50km). Please DON'T DECENT in the Ulina gorge. The risk is simply not worth it. A biker fell in front of me and had to be taken out by Rega. According to a conversation with a local hunter, this happens several times during the summer months. As already described, pushing up is not so exciting. (So it's better to cross the gorge on foot from south to north).
The detour to the Alprestaurant Champatsch and the subsequent single trail is worthwhile in terms of both riding and scenery.
Sensational tour, the Uina Gorge Wild-Romatic ...
At the moment (12.09.) the road on the South Tyrolean side shortly after the Schlinig-Alm is closed and you have to switch to the hiking trail, part of it is passable but most of it has to be pushed. The access road to the Sesvenna hut is being renewed and new sewage pipes are being laid at the same time. According to the Sesvenna hut warden, the construction work will last the whole fall and from the 15th the South Tyrolean side will be completely closed for 2 weeks (until around the beginning of October) as rock work is also being carried out.
It's been a while since I did this tour. The numbers are just as impressive as the scenery. But don't expect too much from the trails. A CC is sufficient here at most AM. But the view and the Val D'Uina in particular are worth it. Even I kept to the riding ban here :) The path down the Uina valley is not technically challenging, but mistakes are inevitably fatal.
Great but very tough tour without much trail. Ridden on 14.07.18. For those without Schurter or Sauser power, I recommend taking the bus to S-charl. This uphill is covered exclusively on the road. Savings of approx. 650hm. The trail to Müstair is super. The subsequent uphill to Schlinig starts out on tarmac but then becomes steep and tough. The final ascent to the Sesvenna hut is not rideable as it is too steep and blocked. The Uina gorge is visually brilliant but you should not ride it. After the gorge, it's relatively easy to Sur En and a leisurely ride back to Scuol. I met many Transalp riders in the gorge and I am glad to have ridden the route from the top to the bottom.
