Appenzell Innerrhoden, historically difficult terrain for mountain bikers, rejects a ban on MTBs on hiking trails – with 23 votes to 22 in the 50-member parliament. The cantonal cycle path law will now be put to the vote without a ban on bikes.

Twelve years after construction began, the last section of the Waldeggtrail in St. Gallen went into operation in September. Three months later, the city parliament has cut the money for maintenance from the 2025 budget. MTB organizations have launched a petition.

The St. Gallen cantonal council approved the motion "SG needs an MTB strategy" by an overwhelming 100 votes to 3. This should enable a functioning mountain bike infrastructure in future, but also more clearly regulate responsibilities in coordination with the municipalities, landowners and stakeholder groups.

A few weeks ago, bike stores and clubs in St. Gallen received a letter from the cantonal forester. In it, he pointed out that riding on trails that are narrower than two meters is still not permitted. Anyone caught on illegal trails could expect a fine. This makes it all the more important that the Waldegg trail on the outskirts of St. Gallen, which has been under construction for years, is completed.
