Ride is constantly expanding its tour database. Here is a look back at May 2024: 29 tours were recorded with a focus on the Upper Black Forest, northern Lake Constance and the Allgäu region.

Freiburg im Breisgau is the MTB hotspot in the Black Forest and is known for its strong MTB scene. This invites you to the traditional festival on the third weekend in April - a good opportunity to pay a visit to the local trails.

The 24th edition of the Black Forest Ultra Bike Marathon will take place in Kirchzarten from July 12 to 14, 2024. Local Matthias Bettinger will be at the start, for whom participation is always a highlight of the season. While race preparation is almost automatic for the professional, it is a big question mark for many of the thousands of amateur riders. Bettinger now gives valuable tips on how to prepare ideally for this marathon classic.

Four trail initiatives in Germany have received a grant from Trek in 2023. Three of them are active in Baden-Württemberg and show that single trails can be opened up there too.

Germany can do more than sauerkraut! This is shown by Ride's review of the year 2022. Last year, the editorial team researched a total of 500 new singletrail tours and added 33,000 kilometers to the route network of the Singletrail Map. Most of them in southern Germany. Welcome aboard, Krauts!

This summer, Ride has considerably expanded the route network of the Singletrail Map (6000 kilometers) and its tour database (43 entries) with routes from the Black Forest. However, the unspeakable two-meter rule applies here. This raises the question: is this the right thing to do or is it a disservice to the sport of mountain biking?

The two-meter regulation hangs over the Black Forest like a sword of Damocles. The region does not appear to be a good place for mountain bikers. The reality is different: There is a good understanding on all sides, no trace of density stress. This unrealistic regulation should finally be abolished, says Thomas Giger in his blog post.

Southern Germany and single trail riding are not usually mentioned in the same sentence. Two big names in Black Forest biking are now trying to change that and are launching the "Trail Hero" - a singletrail event for everyone at the Singer Wäldercup in Titisee-Neustadt. This race with a marathon character offers around 60 percent single trail, which is a novelty in the German-speaking world.

In 2014, the cycling associations in Baden-Württemberg called on the state government to abolish this 2-meter rule in a petition with 58,000 signatures. However, the state government responded to pressure from forest owner, hunting and hiking associations to retain the blanket ban. In return, generous narrow paths were to be designated for cycling.
