The district of Miesbach in Upper Bavaria must redefine its landscape conservation areas. Some want to link this to a sweeping ban on single-track trails. But that won’t happen for now; the plan was too legally shaky. Now there is even a risk that all conservation areas will be revoked if new boundaries are not defined by the end of the year.

The Isartrails on the outskirts of Munich appear to be one step closer to realization. Construction work is set to begin in winter 2026-27. Ten years after the first officially accepted concept, the official trails in the Isar valley could be realized. But perhaps it will take a little longer.

The Upper Bavarian district of Miesbach wants to ban mountain biking on trails less than 1.5 meters wide in six newly defined nature reserves. Despite 35 exceptions, this comes close to a mountain bike ban in the entire district, according to the DIMB.
