Spotguide Frutigland

The Frutigland region with the portal of the Lötschberg tunnel in Valais offers impressive opportunities for MTB tours without having to continue directly into the southern valley. The north side of the Lötschberg boasts a variety of highlights and is roughly divided into three regions:

The lower valley floor around Frutigen serves as a hub, with connections in all directions and direct access to Lake Thun. The western arm of the valley around Adelboden impresses with its lovely mountain flair and excellent accessibility with mountain railroads. In contrast, the eastern arm with Kandersteg is much wilder and more alpine.

The region also impresses with its connections to neighboring areas. From Adelboden, great tours can be combined with Lenk, while the Gemmi Pass from Kandersteg provides a connection to Leukerbad in Valais. For experienced mountain bikers, the Sefinafurgga even offers challenging tours into the Jungfrau region.

Getting there

Arrival by public transport

Frutigen can be reached in just 45 minutes by direct train from Bern. The Kandertal valley with Kandersteg is also easily accessible by direct train from Bern. From Frutigen, you can take the bus to Adelboden, where bikes can also be easily transported.

Arrival by car

From Bern, head in the direction of Thun, Spiez and Interlaken. In Spiez, take the exit towards Kandersteg, Adelboden and Frutigen. In Frutigen, the valleys divide: turn off into the Kandertal to get to Kandersteg, or into the Engstligental, which leads to Adelboden. Adelboden lies at the end of the Engstligental and can be reached from Frutigen in around 20 minutes. The journey to Frutigland from Zurich or Lucerne via Sarnen, Lake Brienz and Interlaken takes around two and a half hours respectively.
