Guscha

Serpentinen-Trail

The Alp Guscha lies steeply above the St. Luzisteig between Maienfeld and Balzers. The ascent is steep and the singletrail descent is full of switchbacks. The route can also be perfectly combined with the classic Regitzerspitz route.

Description

The tour, which starts at Maienfeld railroad station, begins harmlessly with an ascent on a country road to Bovel. The hamlet is known as Heididorf. Shortly before Bovel, keep left to reach the mountain road up to St. Luzisteig. The gravel road to Guscha branches off to the right, initially at a pleasant gradient, but from the Guscha tower onwards the going gets tough. The road is very steep and remains so until you reach Alp Guscha with its small inn. The downhill trail starts in Guscha, rides to the nearby mountain top and then descends into the valley in many hairpin bends. The trail is challenging at first, but then becomes increasingly flowing. This takes you back to the pass road to the Luzisteig, but this time on the Liechtenstein side. Now you enter the second section of the tour with the ascent to Mattheid. You can either continue along the gravel road to reach the Regitzerspitz or take the single trail on the right down to the large meadow below the Heidenkopf. Now, after the Guscha descent, the second trail highlight of the day awaits, the descent down to the banks of the Rhine. The trail is easy to ride, but leads through steep terrain and right through the wild Mozentobel ravine. Once you reach the banks of the Rhine, follow it back to Maienfeld.

Ascent is hard, and a very fast descent.
In combination with the Regitztour is OK.

Beautiful tour, the ascent is hard but over quickly ;)
The Guschahütte is nicely catered for and the descent is in top condition. Be sure to add the Regitzertour and review the tour over a glass of local wine in Maienfeld.

Rode today, always fun this round...... everything important has already been written, except, to be honest, riding technique 3 out of 6 points, well.... I would now give it more of a 4. It's all very rideable, but someone has to have a very good grip on the technique for the switchbacks in this rather steep terrain, so that he or she doesn't have to dismount every 50m and push/carry the bike around the corner.

Rode it today, it's always fun, at least once the steep climb is done. The path is in good condition. The route description is pretty good. We always start in Fläsch, as the car can currently still be left here free of charge. There is a parking lot in front of the village (from the highway) or just after the village. The detour to the Regitzerspitz is worthwhile, there are various other descent options to Fläsch in addition to the one indicated.

A good place to park is also the Heidiland highway service area with direct trail access on the banks of the Rhine.
