Monte Piambello (Ponte Tresa)
Description
From Ponte Tresa, the route initially rides along the lakeside road of Lake Lugano to Brusimpiano, where the ascent to the mountain village of Marzio begins. This rides along an asphalt road, turning left after the last houses of Marzio and climbing up to Monte Piambello on a gravel road via the Bocchetta dei Frati. From the summit with its wonderful view, there are several attractive downhill versions, in this route it is the singletrail along the northern ridge down to Forcorella, the small pass crossing just above Marzio. You then have to climb a few more meters until you reach the transmission mast at the Madonna degli Alpini. Here, keep right onto the singletrail over the ridge - a fun and flowing trail with some tricky sections. You reach the road junction above Ardena and take the historic path along countless trenches down to the first houses of Lavena. Return to the starting point along the riverside road.

As already mentioned, only the middle section is worthwhile on the trail. The ascent to the summit is tedious and the descent is nothing special (but the view is). The descent at the end should be avoided, it's a streambed and not a trail...
The tour was 95% rideable for me with the e-bike. It is well maintained in places, but not at all in others. All in all, however, OK. The Roman road at the bottom is completely a scree slope.
I rode the tour from Agno today. As good as it is rolling up to Marzio, the following ascent to the summit is very difficult. After the many days of rain, it's partly a stream bed interspersed with scree. The hairpin bends are then possible again. The view from the Piambello summit makes up for it. The trail back to Marzio is ok at the beginning, but rather boring after the stone blocks. The DH route Marziana is cool and fun - there is trail maintenance and drainage. The continuation on the military road was a stream bed today - but it won't be any fun dry either. In terms of trails, only the middle, maintained section is worthwhile. In terms of experience, the summit is definitely worthwhile.
We were there today.
From Marzio to bocchetta dei Frati the ascent is poor. The forest path is barely recognizable. Lots of foliage interspersed with many coarse loose stones. Pushing is the order of the day.
The trail from the summit to Marzio is nothing special, rather boring. So it's best to ride only as far as Marzio and enjoy the trail from the Madonna degli alpine. Sometimes flowy, sometimes blocked. In between there are decent jumps with chicken ways. The military road is quite dilapidated but still easy to ride.
So I think the tour is OK, but it's not a great ride.
We rode the tour today.
When climbing from Marcio to Piambello, pay attention to the signposts: The correct (first) turn-off is marked Bocchetta dei Frati (not Piambello). The descent from Piambello initially leads over a rough trail. Before the Sasso di Bolle, you have to pass the stones on the left. The descent goes through the forest and is nothing special, but the remoteness makes it quite adventurous and it has its charm (without navigation it will be difficult). The trail from the Madonna degli Alpini, on the other hand, is first class - sometimes technical, sometimes flowy! However, the subsequent descent from Ardena via the old military road is like a scree slope at times and is not much fun. An alternative would significantly enhance the tour.
