The Valais Messenger last reported in detail about the upcoming construction project on December 31, 2024. When Ride asked the mayor of Bellwald, reference was made to this report. No further information may be communicated at present. 

Supporters argue that the gondola lift is a more environmentally friendly alternative to car traffic and offers new economic opportunities for local tourism. The existing aerial cableway at Fürgangen is outdated, far too small and its operating times are far from ideal. Not to mention the transportation of mountain bikes. However, the planned construction of the gondola lift has been blocked for some time by an objection received in Fiesch.

The objection is being dealt with by the State Council. Negotiations are also taking place in parallel to shorten the legal process. There are high hopes that an agreement can be reached without legal action. The mayor of Bellwald, Jeannine Burgener, says of the ongoing negotiations: "A proposed solution is on the table. This still needs to be discussed in detail with all parties involved. The complainant has made concessions." Burgener will not and cannot comment publicly on what the proposed solution looks like in concrete terms. She only hints that it is not about money.

In addition, there are questions about financing and long-term profitability. The decision on the project is expected in the coming months and is likely to be groundbreaking for the region's tourism development and a great added value for the mountain bike community.
