Hitherto, Mahle has almost only produced rear-wheel motors for e-bikes, and is now officially entering the mid-motor business. With a weight of 2.5 kg, a torque of 105 Nm and a peak power of 850 W, the e-bike drive is certainly impressive.

Grown-up e-bikes are extremely heavy, making them unwieldy and oversized for short after-work rides. On the other hand, these e-bikes boast a long range. And there is another way: with smaller batteries and smaller motors, the weights are significantly reduced. Mahle, a specialist in rear-wheel motors, takes this lightweight concept to the extreme.

Mahle is working on perfecting the e-bike system: the new X30 package includes a new motor in addition to the battery and control element. Its highlights are certainly a low weight of 1.9 kilograms and a torque of 45 Newton meters, which should come close to the punch of mid-mounted motors.

Mahle is not only an automotive supplier, but also a supplier of e-bike systems. As batteries are central to both, Mahele is opening a new test and development center for battery technologies in Stuttgart.
