After twelve fruitful years, Scott and Peter Denk are ending their collaboration. From the end of October, the bike manufacturer will officially no longer be using the services of developer Denk and his engineering office. Denk was responsible for numerous Scott innovations, including the pioneering G-Zero and the current lightweight Spark.

Scott will completely overhaul its full-suspension cross-country bikes in 2007. Due to an 18-month patent dispute with Specialized, Scott is not allowed to sell Genius bikes on the US market and is now taking the consequences. Scott told the industry magazine "Bicycle Retailer" that the Genius will be completely redesigned and the patented "Horst link" will be abandoned.

Although "Scott USA" is clearly visible on the bikes, the bike manufacturer from Givisiez in Fribourg is only connected to the US manufacturer of ski poles by its common roots. The European manufacturer's bikes were previously not even available in the States ? which was regretted after the presentation of the "Genius" platform. Now Scott has signed former Cannondale vice president Scott Montgomery: This is to manage Scott's activities in the United States and thus open up a huge new market for the brand.

Thomas Frischknecht wins the gold medal at the Mountain Bike World Championships in Lugano in excellent weather conditions. In a sprint against the Dutchman Bart Brentjens, the Swisspower rider Frischknecht secures the rainbow jersey, with the German Carsten Bresser in third place.

The bikes were already shown to the media in Ticino at the beginning of July, but we are only now able to report on them: Scott will be launching a four-bar bike for the first time in the coming model year. The bikes in the "Genius" series offer extensive drive neutrality as well as the option of adjusting the suspension travel as required using a small lever on the handlebars. Depending on requirements, the full suspension travel, a little more than half with increased progression or no travel at all is available on the rear wheel. Attentive observers have already been able to take a closer look at the "Genius" bikes at the Scott stand in the Expo Village at the SBM Festival.

As soon as Scott decided to tackle the US market under the leadership of Scott Montgomery, they were hit by the patent laws. This is because Specialized has held the intellectual property rights to the "Horst link" in the US since May 1998, the pivot point on the chainstays of real four-link bikes that allows the suspension and drive to be completely decoupled.

Scott combines all of its full-suspension mountain bikes except the Gambler in the 2009 Genius. The entire construction of the bike is new, only the name and the suspension system, which is largely based on that of the current Genius except for the Horstlink and offers 150 millimeters of suspension travel, have remained the same. It combines the agile, sporty handling of a cross-country race bike with the comfort of a touring bike with plenty of suspension travel.

In the Cross Country department, Scott will be introducing a new locking mechanism for the fork and shock in the coming season. Under the name "TwinLock", the entire suspension of the Spark and Genius can now be operated via a lever mounted on the handlebars.
