The new testing concept replaces the “Five Friends” format, which retired in December after eight years. Four products from a specific segment now compete against the benchmark product, which has proven itself over the past few months or even years. “Beat the Benchmark” is not a traditional comparison test with fixed criteria and a point system, but rather an entertaining format. It briefly introduces the five items, lists the strengths and weaknesses of each product, and concludes by revealing whether the throne has been dethroned.
