What a year for Nino Schurter: world championship titles, World Cup victories and, to top it all off, Olympic victory. No Swiss athlete can boast a similar palmares. However, this is not yet a free pass for the Sportsman of the Year award. With the nomination of Fabian Cancellara and the two tennis players Federer and Wawrinka, strong competition awaits. But we finally want a mountain biker as "Sportsman of the Year"!

Jolanda Neff is also nominated

Jolanda Neff's run in the poll is a lot tougher. Here, the title will probably go to Lara Gut - if the mountain bike community doesn't make enough calls. Jolanda Neff has special memories of the election. In 2013, she flirted with Robbie Williams during his performance. This year's star guest is more for the men, Helen Fischer. The athletes of the year are chosen by telephone vote during the live broadcast on SRF 1. The athletes are nominated by a jury of experts. The election has been held since 1950.
