One for all: Abus introduces the Targon helmet

With the Targon, Abus offers a helmet for anyone who doesn’t want to choose between touring, the bike park, and a post-work ride. It’s a full-face helmet designed for rough terrain, but without the chin guard, it becomes a stylish open-face helmet perfect for long climbs and leisurely rides. The Fidlock closure keeps it securely on your head, and the 15 ventilation openings keep it cool. The Targon Mips is even approved for downhill riding.

Abus is expanding its mountain bike lineup with the Targon, introducing a helmet designed to combine two uses in a single model. The new Targon features a removable chin guard, allowing it to be used either as a full-face helmet or a half-shell helmet. This makes the helmet ideal for riders who tackle challenging trails, ride in bike parks, or go on long tours and don’t want to use a separate model for each application. At the same time, the Targon is the first mountain bike helmet from Abus to be manufactured at the company’s own Italian factory.

The key feature of the Targon is its modular design.

With the chin guard attached, the helmet offers additional protection for technical descents, rough singletrack, and downhill riding. Without the chin guard, it becomes a lighter open-face helmet for climbs, tours, or everyday use. The switch is made via the patented Speed Latch System. This allows the chin guard to be released or reattached on both sides with a single hand movement. Abus aims to make operation as simple as possible without compromising on protection.

To ensure a precise fit for different head shapes, Abus relies on several systems for the Targon. The chin strap features adjustable Vario Pads that allow the fit to be adjusted to three different positions. At the back of the head is the Zoom Rapid Fit adjustment system with a dial, which enables precise adjustment. Pressing the dial returns the system to its original position. Additionally, soft comfort pads ensure a comfortable fit. The pads are attached with Velcro, are adjustable, washable, and can be easily removed.

The helmet features additional details designed to make it suitable for long days on the trail. The magnetic Fidlock closure can be opened and closed with one hand, even while wearing gloves. Fifteen ventilation openings are designed to ensure a comfortable climate inside the helmet. A lower edge protector with a polycarbonate outer shell protects the bottom edge of the helmet from scratches, impacts, and wear. The visor protects against the sun and low-hanging branches and is designed to detach in the event of a fall to reduce stress on the neck. There is also a designated area under the visor for securing goggles.

In the Mips version, the Mips Air Node Pro padding complements the protection concept. It is designed to reduce rotational forces that can act on the head during oblique impacts. The Targon meets the European bicycle helmet standard EN 1078, the CPSC standard valid in the United States and Canada, as well as the additional ASTM F1952-22 test with increased requirements for downhill helmets.

The Abus Targon is available in sizes S for head circumferences of 51 to 55 centimeters, M for 55 to 58 centimeters, and L for 57 to 61 centimeters. Available colors include Velvet Black, Sand Beige, Ash Purple, and Lemon White. The weight starts at 950 grams in size S with a chin strap and at 490 grams without a chin strap.
