Piz Mundaun | Ride MTB

Piz Mundaun

This technically and physically demanding tour rides to the highest peak in Obersaxen, the Piz Mundaun. Views and singletrail fun are guaranteed.

Description

From Ilanz, you ride through the village of Laven over countless hairpin bends 800 meters in altitude to Valmala below Piz Mundaun. An alternation of single trails and alpine roads takes you to Cuolm Sura, where the final ascent to Piz Mundaun awaits. It is advisable to use the chairlift here, as the path is steep and rough, and for most people it is like pushing. However, the climb to the summit is worth it. From here, there is a phenomenal panorama of the Grisons Oberland and the Chur Rhine Valley in the background. The descent initially follows the ascent route, but you keep left at the first alpine hut and finally reach Miraniga and the farms just below Meierhof. The final descent to the Rhine begins here. Initially a forest road, a flowing and fun single trail later forms the basis for the descent. Finally, you return to Ilanz along the little road on the valley floor.

Hello, a nice tour that I did on 01.09.2024. The best comes at the end, a fun descent without technical difficulties.

I have to revise my comment on one thing. I'm going to do the tour again, but I'm going to choose my own descent route, which I've put together based on a tip from a local. Maybe the tour will be something special.

The ascent is at its best: pleasant gradient, pretty landscape. The final ascent has four or five ramps, which I (born in 1946) only managed by pushing, the rest is rideable. At the top you have a fantastic view of the Surselva and into the Lugnez. The pub has rustic charm and the coffee is quite good. - On the descent, however, boredom sets in. Almost the whole route is just alpine, forest and asphalt roads. And the finale from Meierhof down to the Rhine doesn't help either: S0 from top to bottom. Did the tour for the first and last time.
