With the Deore M6100 series, Shimano is introducing the latest member of the 12-speed MTB component family and is also presenting an 11-speed Deore M5100 and the 10-speed M4100 variant, which also bears the Deore name. This means that the technologies of the gear groups above are now also available in the entry-level and mid-range segment. The M6100 series is based on the DNA of Shimano's top MTB groupsets XTR, Deore XT and SLX. And the 11-speed and 10-speed variants also seamlessly and worthily continue the tradition of Shimano's Deore groupsets.

Shimano Deore M6100 series (12-speed)

Here are the details of the new crankset, chain and cassette, rear derailleur, shifters and brakes:

1x12-speed crankset: This Deore crankset is only available as a 1x12 version and forms the core of a simple and user-friendly drivetrain. The same Dynamic Chain Engagement+ technology is used as in the XTR, Deore XT and SLX cranks, which, with its specially shaped teeth, guarantees both chain retention on the chainring and smooth and quiet running. For safe and easy installation, the chainrings are attached to the crank via direct mount, making changing a chainring child's play.

A choice of crank arm lengths of 170 mm or 175 mm, chainrings with 30 or 32 teeth (whereby the larger or smaller chainrings of the SLX, XT or XTR can also be used with the Deore crank and extend the range accordingly) as well as versions with three different Q-factors: 172 mm (for 142/148 mm O.L.D.), 178 mm (148 mm O.L.D.) and 181 mm (O.L.D. 157 mm). Alternatively, two groupless cranksets at Deore level are available: the FC-MT511-1 (30T, 32T) and the FC-MT510-1 (30T, 32T, 34T).

Cassette & chain: The Shimano Deore 12-speed Microspline cassette (CS-M6100) consists of 12 durable stainless steel sprockets and has a gear ratio of 10-51 teeth. Thanks to the unique Hyperglide+ technology, these cassettes enable fast and reliable, but smooth and frictionless shifting - both upwards and downwards. Even under high loads. This takes shifting at Deore level to a whole new level.

The Shimano Deore 12-speed HG chain (CN-M6100) enables quiet and smooth power transmission and at the same time better retention on sprockets and chainrings. The contact surfaces have been meticulously shaped so that they interact perfectly with the corresponding surfaces of the sprocket or chainring teeth. The chain is also an integral component for top technologies such as Dynamic Chain Engagement+ or Hyperglide+, which ensure unprecedented drivetrain and shifting performance even under load or in demanding terrain.

Detailleur: The Deore 12-speed rear derailleur (RD-M6100-SGS) guarantees fast and precise shifting across the entire range of 10-51 teeth. Guide and tension pulleys with 13 teeth and Shimano Shadow RD+ technology reduce chatter and improve chain retention on sprockets and chainrings by increasing chain tension and reducing movement of the rear derailleur cage.

Shift lever: The right-hand Deore 12-speed shift lever (SL-M6100-IR) benefits from the same technologies as its XTR, Deore XT and SLX-level siblings, including I- Spec EV. This enables a significantly larger adjustment range (14 mm in the longitudinal direction, 10 degrees rotation) for individual cockpit ergonomics in the shift and brake lever area. In combination with other technologies such as Rapidfire Plus and Two-Way Release, these shift levers allow you to shift through the 12 gears of the cassette in both directions faster, more precisely and more comfortably than ever before.

Brakes: The Deore M6100 brakes are available in two versions - with an XC-specific two-piston brake calliper (BR-M6100) or with a four-piston brake calliper for Trail/Enduro use (BR-M6120). Both versions share the same revised brake lever (BL-M6100), whose design with additional support on the handlebars ensures a stiffer construction and therefore better controllability and higher braking power. The brake levers are also equipped with Shimano's proven Servo Wave technology, which quickly guides the pads close to the rotors in the first part of the lever travel and provides plenty of lever travel in the second part for the actual, powerful and easily controllable braking process. Resin or metal pads are available for both brake callipers, while the SM-RT64 or SM-RT54 models are ideally used for the brake discs.

An optional release lever for retractable seatposts (SL-MT500) completes the Deore cockpit as required. This lever can be used to operate dropper posts without having to loosen the fixed grip on the handlebars. The SL-MT500 is optionally available with a classic clamp or as an I-SPEC EV version for a clean look.

Shimano Deore M5100 (11-speed) and M4100 series (10-speed)

The Deore, which in addition to the new 12-speed line also includes a new 11-speed series as well as a 10-speed series, increases the versatility and range of applications of this groupset.

Drivetrain: In contrast to the 12-speed Deore, these two series also have a 2x option (2x11, 2x10) in the line-up. Proven Hyperglide shifting technology, Rapidfire Plus mono shifters for the left side and 2-way release technology also ensure high quality and performance.

If you opt for an 11-speed system, you have the choice of combining either the 10-51T HG cassette (CS-M5100) with a 1x crank (FC-M5100) with 30 or 32 teeth or the 11-42T HG cassette with a 2x crank with standard (FC-M5100-2) or Boost installation width (FC-M5100-B2) and 36-26 teeth. For 10-speed, the combination of 1x10-speed cranks with 30 or 32 teeth and a wide 11-46T HG cassette (CS-M4100) or the combination of 2x10-speed cranks (36-26T) and a narrower 11-42T HG cassette is available.

Rear derailleurs/front derailleurs: The rear derailleurs depend on the choice of drivetrain. The Shimano Shadow RD+ rear derailleur RD-M5100-SGS is intended for use with a 1x11-speed drivetrain. Like all Shadow RD+ rear derailleurs, it is characterized by a flat profile, which prevents damage caused by contact with rocks and similar obstacles, and has a chain stabilizer that effectively prevents the chain from hitting and jumping off. It easily copes with the wide range of the 11-51T cassette. The RD-M5120-SGS rear derailleur also has the flat profile typical of Shimano SHADOW RD+ and is designed for cassettes with up to 42 teeth (2x11/2x10-speed) or up to 46 teeth (1x10-speed). An affordable RD-M4120-SGS rear derailleur with conventional Shimano SHADOW RD technology for 2x11 or 2x10-speed systems is also available within the Deore family.

The Deore front derailleurs (FD-M5100/M4100) guarantee smooth, quiet and frictionless shifting at the front and at the same time offer sufficient clearance for wide tires (up to 2.3") on wide rims. Both versions are available in different mounting options (D, E or M) and are therefore suitable for a wide variety of frame designs.

Shift levers: For both 1x and 2x systems, the corresponding shift levers (SL-M5100-IL/IR) use I-SPEC EV to offer the option of mounting shift and brake levers or, in the case of 1x, a release lever for retractable seatposts integrated with the brake levers on a common clamp. This enables a clean cockpit design and leaves plenty of freedom for ergonomic positioning of the controls. On the left-hand side, the RAPIDFIRE PLUS MONO technology is used on the 2x shift levers, which allows you to shift up and down with just one lever, enabling fast, direct and above all intuitive operation. A visual gear indicator on the right shows the selected gear at a glance. The RAPIDFIRE PLUS design with 2-WAY RELEASE makes it possible to shift up to three gears with one lever movement and to operate the release lever either by pushing with the thumb or pulling with the index finger.

Brakes: Disc brake systems are available to match the 10-speed and 11-speed versions of the Deore, in which the BL-M4100 brake lever can be combined with either a two-piston or four-piston brake calliper. Like its larger siblings, the BL-M4100 is also additionally supported on the handlebars and is therefore significantly stiffer than previous models. It also has a shorter free travel. While the BR-MT420 four-piston brakes offer a choice of resin or metal pads to deliver high braking power to the disc, the BR-MT410 two-piston brakes are a lighter version that only feature resin pads.

The new Shimano Deore 12-speed components are now available from specialist retailers. The 10-speed and 11-speed series will be available from specialist retailers from June 2020.
