In 2015, Specialized set a benchmark in E-MTBs with the Turbo Levo. This year, this model is ten years old and the fourth generation is being launched on the market. It no longer causes the same sensation as it did back then, but still sets the bar high for the competition.

This balancing act is not easy when it comes to e-mountainbikes: the sports equipment should be as light as possible, but still offer maximum range. Canyon seems to have mastered this challenge, as the new Spectral:On line features a model that combines plenty of suspension travel, high battery capacity and low weight.

The trend to reinterpret even a trail bike as an enduro bike and, last but not least, the e-mountainbike are making things really difficult for a traditional megatrend: lightweight construction. Whereas in the past every gram of the bike was haggled over, today the overall weight plays a subordinate role, and not just in terms of perception. But lightweight construction is by no means out of the picture; a look at the specialists shows that the scene is still alive and kicking. The best proof of this is a wheelset weighing less than a kilo, a stem weighing a mere 67 grams or a flyweight Ahead cover weighing just 5 grams.
