After the qualifying run on Saturday, it was clear that Schurter was going to challenge the freeride high-flyer Absalon for victory. Schurter mastered the difficult course from Nagens to Films over 30 seconds faster. The Schurter-Absalon duel was thus set in motion. In the final run, Rémy Absalon was not to be outdone again and won the first run eleven seconds ahead of Schurter. However, Schurter then showed his strong nerves and took the lead in the second run. Schurter thunders to the finish 24 seconds faster than in the first run, but Absalon sticks to his rear wheel. Third-placed freeride pro Franck Parolin ultimately needs one minute longer to complete the course than the two rivals! The tie in the two final runs ultimately means that the ranking in the qualifying run decides the winner and thus declares the cross-country specialist Schurter the winner.

An analogous scenario decides the women's race. Myriam Saugy comes third in the first run, with Barbara Katz in front. In the second run, the exact opposite result: Saugy in first place, Katz in third. As Saugy, like Schurter, had won the qualifying race the day before, she also ended up on the top step of the podium.
