At the CES 2025 trade fair in Las Vegas, Bosch presented the new "Battery Lock" function. This innovation renders stolen eBike batteries unusable and therefore worthless to thieves. The "Battery Lock" function thus complements the existing security portfolio in the smart system, which already includes "eBike Lock" and "eBike Alarm".

Gregor Dasbach, Head of Digital Business at Bosch eBike Systems, explains: "The battery is one of the most valuable components of an eBike. With Battery Lock, we are offering eBikers an intelligent safety function that protects their battery even better and enables carefree parking. Our vision that no eBike with a Bosch system will ever be stolen again is now within reach."

Digital protection for the eBike battery

Batteries such as the PowerTube and PowerPack are already mechanically secured by a lock. "Battery Lock" extends this protection digitally. If the function is activated in the eBike Flow app, the battery is automatically locked as soon as the eBike is switched off. If a thief attempts to insert the locked battery into another eBike with a smart system, the battery deactivates the motor support. This renders the eBike unusable and makes it practically impossible to resell the battery.

"Battery Lock" works with all batteries and battery combinations in the smart system, including DualBatteries and the PowerMore 250 range extender. Several digital keys, such as the smartphone with the eBike Flow app or the Kiox 300 and Kiox 500 displays, can be used simultaneously. These keys can be managed via the app and the function can be deactivated if required, for example if the battery is to be shared.

Comprehensive protection against theft

The new function complements existing Bosch security solutions. With "eBike Lock", smartphones and displays act as digital keys to activate motor support. "eBike Alarm" informs users about the location of their eBike, warns of suspicious movements and starts location tracking in the event of theft. In addition, a theft report provides all relevant data and a tracking link for the police. The digital "eBike passport" clearly summarizes all important information about the eBike.

"Battery Lock" can be installed over-the-air on any Bosch eBike with a smart system from summer 2025 via the eBike Flow app as part of the paid Flow+ subscription.
