Austrian-style rejuvenation: The traditional company KTM has left only the names and intended use of its Aphex and Tribute downhill bikes and the Caliber freeride line unchanged. KTM has revised all the other features from the ground up. Lower weight, more suspension travel and more diverse adjustment options were in the specifications for the 2010 model year.

After nine years of well-behaved granny electric bikes, KTM is breaking out of familiar patterns with its 2010 e-bike program. The Austrians are one of the first bike manufacturers to install a BionX auxiliary motor in a fully-fledged mountain bike.

The frame of KTM's race-oriented full-suspension bikes has been completely redesigned: although the Mattighofen-based company still relies on a low-maintenance single-joint system, the new "Speed" models differ significantly from their "XCA" predecessors in other respects. Because a strut under the suspension strut connects the seat tube and down tube and thus stabilizes the frame, the front frame triangle can be made of very thin-walled aluminium. The top model "Speedmachine" even uses a Scandium tube set, which, together with wheels and the HVR suspension strut from DT Swiss, a "SID Team" fork from RockShox, gears and disc brakes from the XTR groupset and numerous parts from Ritchey's WCS line, brings the total weight down to under 11 kilos.

The bike company KTM is not impressed by the mood of crisis. After a record year in 2008, the Austrians from Mattighofen are confident of a further increase in the current season.
