More than 30 associations and companies founded the Cycla cycling alliance on Wednesday, September 9th. Cycla's slogan is "Boost for the bicycle". The president of Cycla is the Valais CVP member of the Council of States Marianne Maret. "The time is ripe for cycling - in urban and rural areas, in everyday life and for leisure."

According to the press release, the Cycla cycling alliance sees itself as a political alliance of organizations, parties and companies that want to improve the framework conditions for cycling in Switzerland. Members of the alliance include transport and cycling associations such as the TCS touring club, the VCS transport club, Swiss Cycling and Pro Velo Schweiz. The industry associations velosuisse and 2rad are also members, as are Thömus, a bicycle manufacturer, and Veloplus, a parts and bicycle seller. Other members include associations for public transport, heavy goods vehicles, spatial planning, education and tourism.The board is broad-based and comprises 35 people, including representatives from most political parties. "Promoting cycling is not a question of party color, but a simple necessity. If you want to improve the health of the population and solve traffic problems at the same time, there is no way around bicycles," says Cycla President Marianne Maret.As mentioned, only one bicycle manufacturer and one bicycle and parts seller, Thömus and Veloplus, are on board with Cycla so far. Christoph Merkli, Secretary of Pro Velo Switzerland and Cycla, says: "We hope that more members will join in the near future."
