At around 16:30 on Thursday (September 1, 2022), three friends were riding their mountain bikes on the "Yo-Yo Trail" from the hamlet of Z'Mutt in the direction of Zermatt. For reasons as yet unexplained, the rider in front of the group suddenly lost his balance and fell around 40 meters down a rock face, according to the Valais cantonal police.

The rescue services were called out immediately and were only able to determine that the victim had died. The victim was a 27-year-old German national residing in Germany.
