No more 26 inches - and significantly lighter
The new 34 fork from Fox, the exact name is Factory Series 34 Float, will no longer be available in 26 inches, only 27.5 and 29 inches will be available. Weight reduction was the order of the day: the 27.5" model with 160mm stroke weighs 1,746 grams (219 grams less than its current counterpart), while the 29er fork with 140mm stroke weighs 1,796 grams (297 grams less than its current counterpart).

New rebound damping
Fox has developed a new damping system for the 34 forks, the chassis and the air spring are also completely new. The so-called Fit4 damper is used, a closed damping cartridge that was first installed in 2004. The fourth development stage now presented is intended to offer a more controlled rebound reaction to hard impacts and not be rattled by many small impacts in quick succession.

However, the main changes do not concern the rebound, but the compression. Fox has probably fundamentally adapted this because the existing CTD system was repeatedly criticized in tests for being too weakly tuned in compression damping in descend mode. This insufficient compression damping caused the fork to rush through the travel, which can be unpleasant when descending steps, for example, and the fork can no longer release the full travel once it reaches the bottom of the travel.

Self-determination in open mode
Now there is a remedy from Fox: The rebound has three basic settings: Open, Medium and Firm. In open mode, the fork can also be adjusted, with 22 clicks available for low-speed compression. This allows the rider to easily determine from the outside how the fork behaves when compressing, either completely plush or rather firm with lots of feedback.

New air spring - significantly lighter
Fox promises "smoother performance" with significantly less friction for the newly designed self-balancing positive/negative air chamber, with fewer vibrations reaching the handlebars. The air spring unit in the left fork side has been lightened by a total of 125 grams. Volume spacers can also be used to adjust the behavior in the mid-travel range and to adjust the resistance to bottoming out.

Fox launches new generation of shocks
"Fox Float DPS" is the name of the new damper packed with innovations. A new feature is a system called Dual Piston. The main piston influences the Open and Medium modes, while the Lockout piston is responsible for the Firm mode. The firm mode should come close to a 100 percent lockout, the open mode should be adjustable in its setting.

The damper housing has a new shape and gives the device a larger negative air chamber. This rides on a more linear spring characteristic, and Fox cites a lower breakaway torque and good response to small bumps as further advantages.

For the Sea Otter Festival, which takes place on April 16-19, Fox has announced even more news. Among other things, an expansion of the 36 fork range is expected.
