Hit the trails in winter - Cape Verde is becoming a bike region

Escape the cold in the middle of winter, immerse yourself in summer mountain bike tours and combine this with a dash of the exotic. Then Cape Verde is an option. And now with a special job prospect: a local project manager is being sought to promote the region as a bike destination.

The position is being advertised by King Fisher Village, a hotel in Tarrafal on the island of Santiago, which already operates a small bike station together with Scott. This is now being significantly expanded, while at the same time the trails and mountain bike culture in the region are to be promoted. The position of bike station project manager has now been created for this approach, which will initially be limited to one year and is intended to lay the foundations for a sustainable mountain bike infrastructure.

Tours and spot guide from Ride

Ride was on site in spring 2022 and recorded routes for the entire northern part of Santiago Island. These have been incorporated into the route network of the Singletrail Map. In addition, six attractive singletrail tours were prepared in detail and fed into the tour database. And finally, a spot guide to the region has been created, which contains all the relevant mountain bike information.

The Cape Verdean island of Santiago definitely has mountain biking potential and is considered an unpolished trail diamond. Some investment in trail maintenance is still needed, but the tours in the ride database are great trail highlights. The routes in this scenic mix of dust-dry regions and damp green valleys, volcanic mountains and great beach regions are what make Cape Verde a mountain bike region. A special feature are the many pick-up shuttles in the region - public transport for the locals, so to speak. And extremely practical for mountain bikers.
