Carbon chainrings are nothing new, but their durability in particular has usually been very modest. The company Gemini from Barcelona is taking a new approach to an absolutely lightweight chainring: with an aluminum frame and carbon processed under a lot of pressure, the Rigel chainring is set to launch a new benchmark.

We're talking about "forged carbon" - and the secret behind it is: The Rigel chainring is mainly made of carbon, a choice of material that is intended to ensure low friction with the chain in addition to light weight and stiffness. But it's not just carbon fiber that is used: the fiber matrix is bonded to an aluminum frame using around 100 tons of pressure - with a lot of manual work in Barcelona. This is intended to ensure high wear resistance and the carbon surface is responsible for low friction and low noise. The result is just 39 grams - and of course a very unique look. The high-end chainring is compatible with common 11- and 12-speed drivetrains and several crank standards or chainring mounting interfaces.
