Since September 2024, the "Aletsch Arena Tourist Infrastructure" association has united the five municipalities of Bettmeralp, Fiesch, Riederalp, Lax and Mörel-Filet. The aim is to optimize the management of hiking trails and bike trails, pool resources and reduce costs. The municipalities benefit from uniform standards and better coordination, which should ensure an even higher quality of bike routes and hiking trails in the long term. Christian Eyholzer of Aletsch Arena AG took over the role of coordinator on 1 October 2024 and was regulated by a service agreement.

An external company specializing in the construction and maintenance of bike trails will take over maintenance in future. In addition, trail and environmental work, such as mowing the edges of the trails, will be clearly regulated in order to keep the trails in optimal and uniform condition throughout the destination.

Digitalization from 2026 for better planning

From 2026, the special-purpose association will be using a digital recording tool to facilitate the management of maintenance work. This will enable transparent documentation of working hours and costs and ensure more efficient planning. The Aletsch Arena is thus creating a modern and sustainable basis for the further development of its bike trails and strengthening its position as a mountain bike destination. This type of cooperation and pooling of resources was supported by the New Regional Policy (NRP) and the Upper Valais region's development fund and is intended to serve as a showcase project for other destinations.
