The Rampage 2017 takes place on October 27

Just mark the date in your diary: The - not without danger - freeride spectacle in Utah will take place this year on Friday, October 27. The ten pre-qualified riders have been announced, and the list naturally reads like a who's who of freeriding.

The most spectacular - and at the same time most dangerous - event in mountain biking will take place on October 27: the Rampage. The venue is the same as in 2016 in Virgin, Utah. Ten riders have already been seeded and a total of 21 riders will be competing. Each rider is allowed two helpers for track construction, four days of track construction (by hand only, machines are not allowed) and four days of training. A new ridge will be integrated into the event terrain, allowing even more descents than last year.

Riders already seeded:

1. Brandon Semenuk (CAN)
2. Antoine Bizet (FRA)
3. Carson Storch (USA)
4th Kurt Sorge (CAN)
5th Kyle Strait (USA)
6th Thomas Genon (BEL)
7th Tyler McCaul (USA)
8. Andreu Lacondeguy (SPA)
9. Pierre Edouard Ferry (FRA)
10th Tom Van Steenbergen (CAN)

Rampage & Co. - today's form of Circus Maximus?

Extreme sporting events are the order of the day in the sporting world, and the bigger the spectacle, the better for the spectators. However, athletes expose themselves to great risks, often for a pittance. Paul Basagoitia's serious crash at the Rampage is food for thought and raises questions: Are such events necessary? Who is morally responsible for serious accidents and why do athletes do this to themselves?
