Test: 7mesh MK1 Bib-Short – die zweite Haut für darunter
With the MK1 cycling shorts, 7mesh attached great importance to ensuring that all seams are as flat as possible to avoid pressure points. We also tried to keep the number of individual parts low in order to reduce the number of seams. While the bib shorts have a completely plain appearance, the seat pad is hidden inside as a highlight, sewn onto an intermediate layer using a special technique so that there are no seams on the inside or outside. This means that there is hardly any friction when pedaling, which could be annoying or even cause soreness. The shorts are held in place by 45 millimeter wide, thin and very elastic straps. The leg ends are finely rubberized so that the trouser legs do not slip. The main material The MK1 is made from a comfortable nylon fabric. With a kind of waffle pattern on the inside, the fabric is designed to wick sweat away from the body more effectively.
A seat pad with hidden seams? It's surprising that no other manufacturer has come up with this yet. The wide straps are comfortable until they are soaked with sweat. On the other hand, the leg cuffs are always non-slip and very comfortable. The embossed fabric on the inside of the trouser legs is also clearly visible.
In use on the trail
On first contact with the shorts, the seat pad feels a little bulky and is noticeably thicker than other cycling shorts. You also feel a slight, but not annoying, pull. This is because their cut is specially designed for the riding position on the bike. But once you're on the bike, you forget you're wearing bib shorts after a few seconds. Because nothing pinches, tweaks or rubs, even when worn under the wide bike shorts. Thanks to the rubberized leg cuffs, they don't slip a bit even after many hours in the saddle and always fit perfectly.
Practically wrinkle-free: The MK1 is specially tailored to the position on the bike.
The high price of the MK1 is not only due to the high-quality workmanship, but also to the high-tech textiles used. You stay dry even on long, sweaty rides. The only downside is that the straps eventually soak up sweat during long, sweaty rides. Although this is not noticeable when riding, they feel uncomfortably wet during longer breaks, while the rest of your backside is nice and dry.
Conclusion: For a bib short, the MK1 is not exactly cheap at 239 francs. For the price, however, you get an almost perfect product. The cycling shorts impress with their seamless seat pad as well as their breathable and quick-drying materials. Thanks to these, they feel almost like a second skin even after a day's ride.
