Beschreibung
From Kandersteg, follow the lane to Eggeschwand and then ride on the alpine road through the ravine at the entrance to the Gasterental valley. The best route for the ascent is on the northern side of the valley, where the road nestles in the steep slope of the mountain. Follow the road to Selden and ride up the trail along the southern side of the river until it turns off downhill at an altitude of more than 1,700 meters. The scenery deep in the Gasterental valley is phenomenal. To the north, the Doldenhorn towers in the sky; the glaciers at the eastern end of the Gasterental Valley meet the Kanderfirn and the Petersgrat; to the south, the Birghorn, Sackhorn and Hockenhorn line the horizon. The descent leads past the Heimritz inn. Instead of taking the mountain road, take the single track in the lower part of the Gasterental Valley along the Kander river. The hiking path leads back to Kandersteg.
Alternatives: Leave the climb from Selden high in the upper end of the Gaster Valley and start the return journey in Selden
Tips: Instead of directly from Kandersteg with the train back on the bike path through the Kander valley to Frutigen

Waren am 22.10.23 im Gasterental. Die Strecke oberhalb der Kander zwischen Heimritz und dem Wendepunkt (1725) führt durch ein Geröllfeld und war für mich nicht fahrbar. Wegmarkierungen sucht man vergebens. Auf dem Rückweg bei Selden über die Hängebrücke bringt Abwechslung zur Asphaltstrasse. Ebenso der Wanderweg bei Punkt 1507. So oder so, das Gasterntal ist sehr schön und immer ne Tour Wert.
