Avinox is reimagining the e-bike: With the MG Concept Motor, the Chinese motor and sensor specialist is presenting its vision of a fully integrated drive system—without a rear derailleur, without a cassette, and virtually maintenance-free. The message is clear: The classic rear derailleur may eventually become obsolete.

More power, more control, more access to the sport: In its latest statement, Avinox champions the brute power of the M2S motor as a step forward for e-MTBs. But this very line of reasoning could backfire on the entire bike industry. For while Avinox speaks of innovation, fears are growing of new bans, stricter regulations, and a massive image problem for e-mountain bikes.

What if new power limits for e-mountain bikes don’t bring more order, but instead create new illegal gray areas? That is exactly what Lutz Scheffer warns against: As long as the 25 km/h limit can be manipulated, new digital power limits could exacerbate the tuning problem rather than solve it.

With the M2S, Avinox takes its e-bike drive to a whole new level. The motor remains compact, yet delivers a significant increase in torque and power. With a peak output of 1,500 watts, the system sets new standards in the full-power segment—a power output comparable to that of a scooter, while its torque in boost mode can even rival that of large motorcycles—in theory.

DJI has put a strong exclamation mark on the e-bike drive with a firmware update: The maximum output of one thousand watts can be set in all support modes and the boost function can now be called up for up to 60 seconds. The motor should be even more reactive during the initial pedal movement when starting off.
