Kona has already shown itself to be innovative with the recently introduced all-mountain and enduro bikes. This breath of fresh air also extends to the gravity product range and Kona will be rolling into the park next season with a carbon downhiller.

The bike brand "KONA" wants to focus more on the Swiss mountain bike market in future and is launching a Swiss marathon team as a first measure for the coming season. The "KONA bike team switzerland" will focus on the iXS Swiss Bike Classics and some stage races.

Not only on the trails does Kona set the pace, but also on the web. One month before Eurobike, the Canadians are already presenting all of next year's bikes on their homepage.

The brand has only been around for a few years, but now they have already signed one of the fastest downhillers. Frenchman Fabian Barel, multiple world champion and only beaten by Sam Hill at this year's world championships, is switching from the Kona brand to Mondraker for the coming season. Barel will be the key performer of a new racing team, which is primarily supported by the car company Subaru.

In addition to a whole selection of indestructible bikes that are particularly fun to ride downhill, Kona also presented this elegant "King" frame at Eurobike: The front frame triangle is made of Scandium, with the bottom bracket area milled out of the block being particularly striking. Together with the carbon seat stays and the short Fox suspension strut, this results in a lightweight race bike with 65 millimeters of suspension travel. If that's not enough, you're guaranteed to find what you're looking for at Kona: Because all full-suspension models get an extra inch of suspension travel in 2005 - cheers to that.

It doesn't seem so surprising that a brand that has a large fan base in Canada like KONA would name one of its models "Bear". Rather that there are legal problems because of it. Following a legal dispute with Marin, which has had a steel hardtail under the name "Bear Valley" in its range for years and is claiming copyright protection, KONA will now deliver all bikes of this type with a slightly different name: "Beer".

The Canadian bike manufacturer Kona is supplying over 200 special bikes for the AIDS aid project "Bike Town Africa" from "USA Bicycling Magazine". The "Africa Bike" is designed to meet the specific needs of caregivers treating HIV and AIDS patients. Kona describes the "Africa Bike" as the most important bike the company has ever built.

Canadian bike manufacturer Kona is taking Swiss distribution into its own hands as of July 1, 2007, thus ending a ten-year distribution partnership with Chris Sports Systems. In an initial statement, Chris Sports Systems expressed its disappointment at the decision from Kona's parent company and has already announced a successor brand.
