The helmet requirement is already in place for the 45 km/h category. Now the bfu has collected data for a possible helmet requirement for the 25 km/h e-bike category. Around 2,600 people in German-speaking Switzerland, French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino were surveyed, either by telephone or online. The bfu announced the following results: "78 percent of the Swiss population would welcome a mandatory helmet requirement on slow e-bikes. Such a mandatory helmet requirement would be more popular with women (87 percent) than men (70 percent)".

According to the bfu, more than two thirds of those surveyed would also currently support a mandatory lights-on day for all e-bikes. The Federal Council proposed this measure in its 2017 evaluation of the Via sicura program.bfu.ch
