More than 1,500 participants are giving it their all at the Open E-Bike World Championships in Ischgl

The popular E-Bike World Championships for everyone took place for the sixth time this year in Ischgl and Galtür. The unique format offers both recreational riders and ambitious athletes the chance to compete for a world championship title. In the Elite category, two athletes from Poland—Marcin Bogdanski and Katerina Matysik—came out on top and secured the coveted titles.

More than 1,500 participants make for a sold-out event

Under perfect conditions, more than 1,500 e-bikers from 37 countries took part in the E-Bike World Championships for Everyone on Saturday. The sporting highlight was the “Elite” race.

Success for Poland in Both the Women’s and Men’s Categories

In a field of strong international competitors, athletes from Poland dominated the Elite category in both the women’s and men’s races. In the women’s race, Katerina Matysik secured the world championship title, relegating South Tyrolean Barbara Oberdorfer and German Susanne Kienzle to second and third place, respectively. In doing so, she impressively underscored the strong presence of Polish riders at this year’s E-Bike World Championships.

In the men’s race, the outcome was incredibly close: In a thrilling sprint, Marcin Bogdanski of Poland edged out Switzerland’s Michael Lenherr by a razor-thin margin of just 0.1 seconds. Third place went to Germany’s Daniel Klemme.

World Champions in Many Categories

Under the motto “Anyone Can Become a World Champion,” numerous titles were awarded across the various categories. In addition to the technically demanding Elite course and the “Everyone” course—suitable for anyone aged ten and up—the “Everyone Advanced” category has also established itself as a permanent fixture of the race format. The large number of participants shows that this more athletically challenging format is a huge hit among ambitious e-bikers.

Olympic champions, world champions, and musicians at the starting line

Numerous well-known personalities from sports, radio, and television were also at the starting line. In addition to snowboard world champion Andreas Prommegger, participants included former national soccer player Walter “Schoko” Schachner, goalkeeping legend Otto Konrad, Super-G Olympic champion Sigrid Wolf, and speed skating legend Michael Hadschieff, all of whom took part with great enthusiasm.

Folk musician and “Mei liabste Weis” host Franz Posch provided a very special moment. Shortly before the start, he spontaneously grabbed the microphone and his “Zieher” and, in keeping with the occasion, struck up “Ja, mir san mit’m Radl da.” After the musical interlude, he hopped on an e-bike himself and successfully completed the open-to-all distance.

The event was organized by the E-Bike World Federation in collaboration with the Paznaun–Ischgl Tourism Association.

Alexander von der Thannen, President of the Paznaun–Ischgl Tourism Association: “The E-Bike World Championships for Everyone are far more than just a sporting highlight. They bring international attention to Paznaun, provide important momentum for summer tourism, and impressively showcase the diversity of our region. Ischgl and Galtür combine alpine nature, high-quality infrastructure, and genuine hospitality into a unique overall experience. We are all the more delighted to once again welcome athletes and guests from all over the world from September 2 to 4, 2027.”

Dr. Markus Mitterdorfer, CEO of the E-Bike World Federation: “The E-Bike World Championships for Everyone grew out of the idea of uniting elite and recreational sports on a shared stage. That is exactly what we have once again achieved impressively this year. With their challenging courses, alpine topography, and professional infrastructure, Ischgl and Galtür offer ideal conditions for a high-caliber sporting competition. I’m particularly pleased to see how the level of competition continues to improve year after year while the event retains its open, inclusive character. This combination of athletic challenge, international competition, and genuine enthusiasm is what makes the E-Bike World Championships for Everyone unique.”

E-Bike Fox Hunt Kicks Off the Competition

The traditional E-Bike Fox Hunt on Thursday marked the official start of the World Championship weekend. For the fourth time, ÖSV cross-country skiing star Teresa Stadlober took on the role of the “fox.” Riding her road bike, she set off up to Idalp and faced a chase by more than 60 e-bikers. Stadlober put in a strong performance, reaching Idalp in a new record time. Only four participants managed to catch up to the top athlete on the way up. Stadlober also used her stay in Ischgl for additional training sessions on roller skis, combining the fun of competition with preseason preparation.

A Diverse Supporting Program

Even off the racecourse, the E-Bike World Championships for Everyone had plenty to offer. Participants and visitors could look forward to a varied program centered around e-bikes. The centerpiece was the large E-Bike EXPO, featuring well over 40 exhibitors from the international cycling scene. The EXPO Fun Challenge tested participants’ skill and riding technique, while attractive prizes were raffled off in the big raffle. The grand prize was a high-quality e-bike from Simplon, the bike partner of the Paznaun–Ischgl region.

Bike to Help: E-Bike World Championships Support a Good Cause

The E-Bike World Championships also placed a strong emphasis on social responsibility. Under the motto “Bike to Help,” a cycling group from Germany raised a total of 3,250 euros for Kinderkrebshilfe Tirol (Children’s Cancer Aid Tyrol). In addition, a donation box was set up in the registration area where participants and visitors could make a voluntary contribution. The Paznaun–Ischgl Tourism Association also supported the initiative and, in keeping with the spirit of the E-Bike World Championships, donated one euro per participant. In this way, the event combined athletic effort with social commitment while also sending a strong message in support of a good cause.

Save the Date

The E-Bike World Championships for Everyone will take place again from September 2–4, 2027. Registration is already open; among the first 500 registrants, we’ll raffle off a Kraftstoff e-bike in the exclusive E-Bike World Federation design.
