At 44, Karl "Charly" Markt was one of the oldest athletes on the mountain bike circuit. Now the Austrian is leaving the racing stage after around 20 years. His greatest successes include 20th place at the Olympic Games in 2012 and 17th place at the World Championships in front of a home crowd in the same year. Markt explained his retirement by saying that the successes he had hoped for had failed to materialize in recent years and that he no longer had the same level of focus.
