The new PD-EF202 and PD-EF205 flat pedals represent a visually very attractive upgrade option in the entry-level segment. The new PD-ME700 pedals also offer an interesting option for trail riders. While Shimano's SPD system has long been synonymous with all types of clipless pedals, the company's flat pedals have also earned an excellent reputation thanks to their unsurpassed quality. Two new platform pedal models now make this product group from Shimano particularly attractive for all those who are looking for an appealing look and proven quality at an affordable entry-level price.

The new colourful PD-EF205 and PD-EF202 models are pleasantly light for metal flat pedals at 612 g and 512 g respectively and are also characterized by a flat profile, a wide shoe-pedal contact surface and the wide range of colours that make them a very attractive upgrade option for mountain bikes, trekking bikes or commuter bikes.

Both pedals have a large concave contact surface to maximize the contact area between shoes and pedal surface and thus ensure a stable system of power transmission. The PD-EF205 with its closed resin body is particularly suitable for use with leisure MTBs or in urban and trekking use with road shoes. In contrast, the PD-EF202 with its open, dirt-repellent design was developed more with a view to use on e-mountainbikes and with sports and leisure shoes.

Both pedals consist of a lightweight aluminum body and a robust, durable pedal axle made of chromoly steel. This gives them the same basic design that characterizes SHIMANO's high-end pedals - including the serviceable bearings that make SHIMANO pedals a long-lasting, durable part of any bike.

While the PD-EF205 has plastic inserts that turn the entire pedal surface into a flat, non-slip contact surface and thus guarantee stability and safety when used with road shoes, the PD-EF202 has pre-shaped pins for optimum contact with the sole of the shoe. Both pedals are available in the color options black, silver, red, blue and gold and thus allow a young, fresh color accent on the bike.

PD-ME700

The expansion of the SHIMANO pedal line-up in 2020 is completed by the new trail-oriented SPD pedal PD-ME700.

With their wide cage, which both protects the binding mechanism and increases the contact surface between shoe and pedal, the new PD-ME700 double-sided SPD pedals are ideal for use on mountain bikes, e-mountain bikes and gravel bikes. The pedals harmonize perfectly with SHIMANO's AM shoe models.

The PD-ME700 was designed for tough off-road use and is therefore equipped with a robust and durable aluminum body and a chromoly steel pedal axle. Like most SHIMANO pedals, the PD-ME700 has serviceable bearings, but they are so effectively protected against the ingress of dirt or moisture that maintenance is rarely necessary. The new PD-ME700 pedals weigh in at 540 g and are fitted with SM-SH51 cleats as standard.
