Like the 10-speed cassette of the XX groupset and the PowerDom racing cassette, the core of the new 9-speed X0 cassette "XG999" is CNC-milled from a block of chrome steel. This "X-Dome technology" results in a precise and extremely light, yet very durable cassette. For comparison: the X999 cassette weighs 175 grams, an XTR cassette 224 grams. Due to the open design, dirt does not settle so well, which results in better shifting function. Only the smallest and largest chainrings are mounted separately.
Unfortunately, the lightweight also has its price. If you take the recommended retail price of 300 dollars as a guideline, your wallet will take a serious hit.
