This new network of trails, designed as a unified offering for the entire valley, combines technical routes, scenic trails, Alpine tours, and easier routes such as the Family Bike Tours. The goal is to offer everyone the opportunity to discover the landscapes of the Val d’Hérens at their own pace. This inclusive approach also aims to expand the offerings for e-bikes. Thanks to the option to rent e-bikes at several sports shops in the region, visitors can now explore the valley’s various routes more easily.

Diverse and sustainable routes

Each municipality has participated in the selection and approval of the mountain bike trails to ensure environmentally friendly use of the area. The trails were established with a focus on protecting biodiversity, respecting agricultural activities, and enhancing the characteristic landscapes of the Val d’Hérens. Among the flagship routes is the Tour du Val d’Hérens, a 112-kilometer loop with 4,808 meters of elevation gain that allows riders to traverse the entire valley. Sports enthusiasts will also find the legendary section of the Grand Raid here, which connects Hérémence to Saint-Martin via Evolène. This route passes through the alpine pastures of Mandelon and Chemeuille, among others, before reaching the feared and famous Pas de Lona. In parallel, several more accessible routes have been developed for families and less experienced cyclists, particularly around Hérémence and Saint-Martin, to allow for a gentler exploration of the region and its mountain villages.

A network of “Bike Friendly” partners

The development of the “Bike Val d’Hérens” project is also accompanied by a quality concept implemented in collaboration with local tourism stakeholders. Along the various routes, accommodations, restaurants, sports shops, and other partners have adapted their infrastructure and services to meet the specific needs of mountain biking and e-biking. This approach is recognized through the awarding of the “Bike Friendly Val d’Hérens” label, whose network includes accommodations, restaurants, specialty shops, and mountain bike guides from throughout the valley.

A summer dedicated to the “Hérens Bike Days”

To mark the official launch of this new offering, several opening events will take place this summer under the name “Hérens Bike Days.” The events will be held at the following locations:

July 18 in Evolène 
July 25 in Thyon and Hérémence 
August 8 in Saint-Martin

Each day will feature a morning reception with coffee and croissants, as well as free guided tours showcasing the new certified trails. Bike test rides will also be organized on the days in Evolène and Thyon–Hérémence.
