The fire broke out at Cima della Trosa late Monday evening. Alertswiss, the federal government’s alert app, reports a major fire; firefighting efforts are underway. Images from the firefighters show grassland burning on steep terrain. The Locarno Fire Department reports that the area is difficult to access and that the fire was therefore only monitored overnight. Firefighting and containment efforts began at 5 a.m. Helicopters were also deployed. 

According to Alertswiss, the trails affected include the path from Cardada Stallone to Alpe die Bietri, the trail from Cimetta to Cima della Trosa, and the trails from Monti di Lego to Cima della Trosa.
