Mountain biking and traveling go together perfectly. It is one of the few sports that can be practiced (almost) anywhere in the world. From the mountains to the sea, from the steppe to the jungle. And yet: the deserts of Israel and the mountain peaks of the Dolomites are literally worlds apart. Travel makes mountain biking even better. But the reverse is also true: traveling becomes more intense with a mountain bike. You get to places where others just drive past. Hardly anyone experiences the power of the Alps more clearly than someone who crosses them on their own initiative by mountain bike. And the bush of New Zealand can be seen quite differently from the saddle than through the windshield of a motorhome. Mountain biking is a way of seeing the world from a new perspective.

This unique combination of travel and mountain biking was the background to the creation of this special issue of Ride. It shows how diverse and enriching the sport can be. Ten adventures have made it into the magazine that you should have done once in your life as a mountain biker. Ten trips that couldn't be more different. From a glacier tour through Greenland to a stage race in South Africa. From a road trip through the USA to an Alpine cross over the Dolomites. From a time-out in Chile to a trail adventure through the Himalayas. The magazine is pure inspiration as to what mountain bikers could put on their personal bucket list.

As diverse as the destinations for mountain bikers can be, the motivations are just as varied. In this issue, Ride wants to know why someone goes on a trip. The conquest of the Alps, the hunt for medals, the search for the perfect photo subject, the attraction of foreign cultures. These are all reasons to set off from home on a mountain bike. And there are countless more. In its travel issue, Ride portrays some character heads who have dedicated themselves entirely and all in their own way to the worldwide bike trails.
