Athertons Horrorsturz zeigt die andere Seite des Extremsports

Achtung, dieser Streifen ist nichts für schwache Nerven! Mit the «The Knife Edge» will Gee Atherton ein wagemutiges Filmprojekt verwirklichen. Doch der mehrfache Downhill-Weltmeister verunfallt schwer. Doch nun entscheidet sich Atherton die Aufnahmen trotzdem zu zeigen.

"When you're constantly trying to go beyond your comfort zone and do things that no one has done before, the outcome is sometimes on a knife edge," says Dan Atherton about his brother Gee's horror fall. "The Knife Edge" was supposed to follow on from Gee Atherton's big-mountain projects such as "The Ridgeline" and "The Slateline". But instead of glossy action, the project came to an abrupt end in a horror crash. A broken thigh, broken ribs and further fractures to the eye socket, nose, ulna and radius, a punctured lung and a concussion are the result.

After a two-week stay in hospital and subsequent rehab, Atherton decided to publish the footage anyway. The multiple downhill world champion considers it important that the less glamorous side of extreme sport is not concealed.

The effort put into this film will not have been in vain in two respects. All proceeds from the film will be donated to the emergency services.
