Disentis has been in a deep sleep for the past 20 years, according to the local press conference. Markus Weber, main shareholder of Disentis Bergbahnen and Catrina Resort, now wants to reawaken the destination and bring it back to life with new momentum - including in mountain biking.
Weber formulates the goal clearly: "We want to offer the 'Catrina Experience', and not just in winter." Building a resort with 800 beds just for winter is not an option. Summer sports such as mountain biking are to play a central role.

Anyone who thinks of expensive vacations when they hear the word "resort" is wrong. Weber emphasizes that the aim in Disentis is not to become sophisticated. It should be a destination for sports enthusiasts and families, in summer and winter alike.
In order to welcome families to the trails, however, it will be necessary to dig a little deeper. Although Disentis has a lot to offer, the existing trails appeal more to experienced bikers. As soon as the snow is gone, the first easier variant will be built.

A racing team as an important pillar

There is nothing unusual about a racing team being supported by a tourist destination. The collaboration between Disentis-Catrina and the "RN Thömus Swiss Bike Team" goes one step further. The team is not only used for representation purposes, but also to support the creation of offers and the recording of the trail network as well as training tours on site.

Team boss Ralph personally takes care of recording the trails and is on hand with help and advice for the future bike destination. However, the man from Thurgau doesn't claim to be a tourism expert, but does admit to having some experience: "During my time as a professional, I've seen a lot, whether at races or in training camps. You pick up a lot of good and also bad examples, and so at some point you get a feeling for what is good and what is not."

Nevertheless, Näf is not venturing into this new territory alone, as he reveals: "I don't have enough experience when it comes to trail building and planning. But I have already consulted experts in these areas, and we would like to continue working with them in the future.

For Disentis and Näf's racing team, the future means that this year there will already be some smaller offers such as riding technique and kids' training sessions, which will be organized and led by the racing team. Further offers will be communicated when the infrastructure opens. However, a complete mountain bike destination will not be created in just one year.

"We have a multi-year contract and are looking forward to a sustainable collaboration with the RN-Thömus team and its friendly riders." Ralph Näf supports Markus Weber's statement and says: "We want to gradually develop Disentis as a bike destination over the next few years. I've been on site from time to time recently and am currently organizing the construction of the Skills Center at the Catrina Resort, which also includes a flow trail. However, the construction of the first trail project from Caischavedra down to Disentis is still delayed due to all the snow."
