In the bicycle industry, one new standard follows another. After wheel sizes, there is now a new tire width with "Plus" and a new dimension for axles and drive with "Boost". A panel discussion on January 25, 2016 will get to the bottom of where this is leading, who is benefiting and who is suffering from it.

27.5 inches and 29 inches are the two established wheel sizes. What about tire widths? 2 to 2.4 inches on standard mountain bikes, 4 to 4.8 inches on fat bikes or the new PLUS format with 3-inch-wide tires? What is the optimum tire width? Which combination of tire width and rim width makes sense? Are the PLUS tire widths and the new BOOST standard the (wheel) measure of all things?

We put these questions to bike manufacturers, specialist dealers and mountain bike sizes at the second panel discussion on the topic of "Wheel sizes, rim widths and axle standards". Trail Supply AG, importer of NoTubes, and the specialist magazine "Ride" will once again be offering competent discussion partners who will ensure a heated and informative discussion with a wealth of knowledge and clear opinions. The moderator will be Ride editor Thomas Giger.

Date: January 25, 2016, 6 p.m.
Location: Transalpes Factory Store, Alte Affolterstrasse 2a, 8909 Zwillikon, www.transalpes.com

The panel discussion will be attended by:

  • Ralph Näf, former top mountain biker, today team boss of Stöckli
  • René Krattinger, Bike Product Manager at Scott Sports
  • Michel Manz, Managing Director of Apex Sports and the brains behind Onza Tires
  • René Albisser, Trailrider Bikeshop
