Until now, a fat bike was a hardtail with an oversized rear triangle and fork to accommodate tires up to 4.7 inches wide. These large-volume tires can cope with some rough terrain and "float" over obstacles, but there was no question of controlled rebound or compression.

More traction, more braking and steering precision
Salsa is now bringing these defined compression and rebound mechanisms to the Bucksaw. This fat bike with full suspension features a Rock Shox Bluto fork at the front, while the Split Pivot suspension at the rear ensures traction and shock absorption. The damping circuit of the RockShox Monarch RT3 shock used on the rear triangle is set up specifically for the requirements of a fat bike. The full suspension should also make braking and steering characteristics easier and more predictable, and unintentional bouncing of tires pumped up with little air when accelerating should also be a thing of the past.

At the cutting edge
With carbon seat stays, the Salsa makers want to make the Bucksaw lighter and more comfortable at the same time. The fat bike continues to keep up with the times in many other details: The bike with an aluminum frame is designed for a single-chainring drivetrain, but the direct mount for the front derailleur also allows a double crank to be fitted. If you want to go wild with the Bucksaw, you can screw a chain guide onto the bike thanks to the ISCG 05 mount.

The tapered head tube in combination with the voluminous down tube further stiffens the front of the bike, the bottom bracket standard is Pressfit 41 with a width of 121 millimetres, the tires measure 3.7 inches wide. The weight should remain well below 14 kilos.

The Salsa Bucksaw should be available for the first time in fall 2014.
