On July 30-31, 2016, a new permanent downhill course will open on the Rellerli in Schönried. After the opening, the course can be used during the operating hours of the mountain railroads. The track will also be able to prove itself with two races this year. The Swiss Downhill Championships will take place from August 12 to 14. For some time now, the title races have been integrated into the iXS Downhill Cup. Now, for the first time, the Swiss Championships are independent again and are no longer considered a side event of a cup.

"Swiss Gravity set itself the goal of changing this and being able to offer added value for the riders again. Thanks to the efforts and willingness of the people at Bikpark Gstaad, we have already achieved this this year," says Mathias Wanner, coordinator of Swiss Gravity. In addition to the license classes, hobby downhillers are also allowed to compete.

Rookies Cup for the second time

The iXS Rookies Cup will be held again on the weekend of September 3-4, 2016. As in 015, the finish line will be directly at the Rellerli valley station. The future stars will be offered an environment like the big ones. In 2014, "guerrilla trail builders" took the initiative for an iXS Rookies Cup. The race was strong and the route had to be legalized. The number one source of goodwill came from the landowners. "They deserve a big thank you. They also want to preserve the gondola lift on the ideal Rellerli summer mountain," say the initiators around Romeo Cairoli and Claude Frautschi.
