Bicycles for a better life - even more this year!

Since 2005, World Bicycle Relief has been helping people in Africa, South America and South-East Asia to improve their mobility. Trek is one of its active supporters, donating almost 1.8 million US dollars to the organization last year. The bike manufacturer is now aiming for a higher donation target in order to provide even more people in poorly developed regions with the distinctive Buffalo bicycles.

Whether they need to get to school, to health facilities and patients or to the market, thanks to World Bicycle Relief people in rural areas can do so on the robust Buffalo bicycles. This is a huge relief instead of having to walk the often long distances.

Each of these Buffalo bikes is the same, including the size. This has the advantage that it is easier to obtain spare parts. The bikes are repaired by local mechanics who are trained by the organization.

The fundraising campaign to finance these bikes is already underway again and Trek is also eager to help. While the US bike manufacturer raised just under 1.8 million US dollars for the organization globally last year, the aim is to raise a total of 2.5 million dollars by 31 December 2022. To achieve this, Trek will double all donations until a value of 500,000 dollars is reached, meaning Trek will then make it one million dollars.

This money will be used to purchase the bikes, which are valuable to the communities and cost around 160 francs each. In this way, World Bicycle Relief is pursuing the goal of donating one million bicycles by 2025.
